Under the leadership of its National Coordinator, Mr. Rhoel Mendoza, the Philippines launched its inaugural observance of International Men's Day on Tuesday, 19 November 2019.
When reached for comment, Mr. Mendoza offered the following:
"It was a very simple launching which took place on November 19 itself. In fact, we just squeezed it in the program of the 30th Founding Anniversary of Bagong Bayani (New Hero) Foundation, a non stock non-profit organization that has been giving out awards annually since 1989 to outstanding Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). In attendance durin this event was no less than the Secretary of the Dept. of Labor & Employment (DOLE), the Hon. Silvestre Bello. Helping me launch International Men's Day in the Philippines was my friend and fellow awardee, the Hon. Alexander Asuncion, who is a member of the Governing Board of the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA). In the afternoon of the same day, we did another soft launch in Mister Donut Trinoma where we gave out some IMD pins. It also marked the formation of the core group which will oversee next year's preparations for IMD Philippines, expected to be bigger and grander. With me and Alex in the core group were Delfin Calibuso, Estien Quijano and Mark Christian Rico."
