There has been a lot of discussion and debate about
the triumphs and pitfalls that concern Black Men trying to make it and survive
in America. Opinions have varied from the extreme to the unbelievable. An
attempt will soon be made to right the wrongs and highlight the positive when "Black
Males Alive: An Evening of Excellence" is presented on Tuesday, December 18, 2018
from 7:00 P.M. (E.D.T.) through 9:00 P.M. (E.D.T.) at the Rotunda Theatre
located at 4014 Walnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The event which is free and open to the public,
community groups, and organizations for the purpose of sharing and learning about
the Black male experience in America as it pertains to struggle, achievement,
and perseverance, will also feature a special tribute to House of Umoja, Inc.
Patriarch Mr. David Fattah, Sr. (http://www.houseofumoja.net). In 2007, the House of
Umoja, Inc. was selected to organize and lead the National Million Father March
in the City of Philadelphia by its creator, Mr. Phillip Jackson,
Founder and Executive Director of the Black Star Project (www.blackstarproject.org) headquartered in
Chicago, Illinois. As a result, Mr.
Fattah donned the mantle of the City of Philadelphia’s Coordinator for the National Million Father
March. Mr. Fattah moved Fathers in
Philadelphia to join Fathers in at least 600 cities throughout the United
States in escorting their child on the first day of each academic year; meeting
their child’s teachers and the principal of their child’s school; obtaining a
copy of their child’s roster and the academic calendar for their child’s
school; and playing a proactive role in their child’s education. Mr. Fattah is the author of the Imani Peace
Pact which leaders of Philadelphia gangs signed on 1 January 1974 and brought
to an end years of deadly gang violence that played out on Philadelphia’s
streets and in its schoolyards. The body
of written work generated by Mr. Fattah which serves as one of the components
of his legacy includes a study entitled, “Social
Unrest Among Black Youth”. Additionally, he is a Contributing Author to African American Perspectives on Crime
Causation, Criminal Justice Administration and Crime Prevention, a book
published in 1994 (www.amazon.com).
The “Black Males Alive: An Evening Of Excellence” event will also acknowledge the ideas, success and promotional conceptualizations of products,
goods and services developed or provided by Black Male Creators, Organizational
and Business Owners. It will feature the
showing of multi-media pilot projects, oral historical presentations, and
cultural demonstrations by Akhenaton (Khan) Mikell of Black Men
Unifying Black Men and Imani Star Development; the Creator of the Baby Mama Drama series Keith
Mungin of the House of Reconciliation/Walk Down Productions; Richard
Oliver, an outstanding media personality on Urban and Family
Violence and Founder of the Parapet Group;. Dr. Neal Hall,
bestselling and award winning author; filmmaker and rapper Marlowe (Strong Armz) Crawford
with special invited guests Robert and Nazir Alston of NKA
