Mr. Jones will showcase Men Of Color organizations and institutions in the City of Philadelphia through on air interviews with a number of Philadelphians under the theme, “The Trials And Tribulations Of Men Of Color” from 5:00 P.M. (E.D.T.) through 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, 17 November 2019 on Radio Station WPEB 88.1 FM and Philadelphia Simulcast 95.1 FM W236C1. On Tuesday, 19 November 2019 from 4:30 P.M. through 6:30 P.M. at the Rotunda Theatre at 4014 Walnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. an inaugural ceremony for the National Association Of Men Of Color along with the feting of local and regional male oriented organizations, groups, and institutions that will include The House Of Umoja, Inc. (www.houseofumoja.net) will punctuate 2019 Philadelphia Men Of Color Week. The event which is free and open to the general public will provide an informal setting for networking, a food buffet, and an informational table space. Established in 1968 by Queen Mother Falaka Fattah and her husband the late Mr. David Fattah, the House of Umoja, Inc., an internationally acclaimed organization leads and organizes the National Million Father March in Philadelphia which encourages Fathers to take a proactive role in their child’s academic affairs. The House of Umoja, Inc was selected in 2007 by the Black Star Project (www.blackstarproject.org), a Chicago, Illinois-based organization created by the late Mr. Philip Jackson, to lead and organize the National Million Father March in Philadelphia due to its successful track record of transforming the lives of and working with over 3,000 adolescent males. In 1974, the House of Umoja, Inc. helped end years of bloody and deadly gang violence which played out in the City’s school yards and streets by successfully negotiating a peace agreement known as the Imani Peace Pact which was authored by the late Mr. David Fattah and signed onto by gang members throughout Philadelphia. As a result, universities and institutions that include, but are not limited to, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Prevention and the Center for Disease Control were moved to seek the expertise of Queen Mother Falaka Fattah and her late husband Mr. David Fattah in the areas of gang reduction, youth programming, and community organizing. Former United States Presidents The Honorable Jimmy Carter and the late Honorable Ronald Reagan have recognized the House Of Umoja, Inc. for its pioneering work which has been documented in published articles such as A Summons To Life, by Robert Woodson of the American Enterprise Institute in 1981 and The Violent Juvenile Offender by Paul DeMuro and Richard Allison of the National Council On Crime And Delinquency in 1984.
A&W Community Solutions and the West Market Improvement Association will mark the observance of 2019 Philadelphia Men Of Color Week on Wednesday, 20 November 2019 by convening a "Give Back to Males and their Families” Day. Sponsored by Mr. Arnett Woodall, the event will be orchestrated at West Phillie Produce located at 62nd and Ludlow Streets in the Cobbs Creek section of Philadelphia. A full day of food giveaways to Male Parents and Fathers begins at 11:00 A.M. which will be augmented by a free workshop entitled “Developing Your Resources” from 4:30 P.M. through 5:30 P.. The workshop will offer information on obtaining free or low-cost supplies, products. Goods and services and a mini-job. Empowering dialogues and free food await members of the general public on Thursday, 21 November 2019 as the Men Of Color At Penn convene their monthly meeting from 1:00 through 3:00 P.M. on the University of Pennsylvania Campus. 2019 Philadelphia Men Of Color Week closes out with Dobbins Community Dinner on Friday, 22 November 2019 from 4:00 P.M. through 7:00 P.M. at the Dobbins Career And Technical Education High School located at 2150 West Lehigh Avenue. The general public is invited to participate in the Dobbins Community Dinner which also offers free haircuts and manicures.
