Mr. Best, who will be one of a number of speakers featured on the Third Annual International Day of Prayer for Men and Boys Teleconference on Sunday, 6 November 2016, is a strong advocate for Men’s Mental Health issues who has embarked upon a mission through music to bring healing to Men and Boys battling severe depression as well as souls who have lost friends and loved ones due to suicide.. Best has penned and produced a poignant and moving ballad, “Letting Go” (www.gregbestmusic.com) that graphically explores male depression and suicide – a ballad which has been adopted by the USA International Men’s Day Team as the anthem for its observance of the theme of “Talk About Male Suicide” for 2016 International Men’s Day.
When reached for comment, Best had this to say:
“I wrote ‘Letting Go’after my first therapy session in November 2013. I was struggling with severe depression and surviving the devastating pain of loss due to suicide. As my tears flowed out, so did this song. I realized that I couldn’t blame anyone for causing me the pain and that I must continue to work through it if I wanted to heal. I can’t change the past but I can make healthy steps towards my own future. Though I don’t always want to face the reality of pain and fear, I know I must honor the memory of those I’ve lost by healing and helping others heal.”
Inaugurated on 15 November 2014, the International Day of Prayer for Men and Boys’ mission is to bring together individuals and religious institutions of all faiths --Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Hindus – for the purpose of embarking on a solutions-based collaborative journey to effectively address homelessness, violence, lack of real life options and physical and mental health resources and support services for Men and Boys, violence, poverty, hunger, criminal justice reform, restorative justice, and ethnic and religious intolerance.
