CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (USA) -- 20 January 2013 -- Poet, author, educator, folklorist and Illinois (USA) Regional Coordinator for 2013 International Men's Day JOHN D. EVANS has joined the USA 2012-2022 International Men's Day Ten Year Plan Committee. Mr. Evans, a native of Chicago, Illinois, has identified the following areas of concern in Illinois: (a) depression; (b) academic apathy; and (c) mental, physical, and spiritual health among African American males. Other members of the USA 2012-2022 International Men's Day Ten Year Plan include Odetta Wright, Virginia (USA) Regional Coordinator - 2013 International Men's Day; Gregory Johnson, Ohio (USA) Regional Coordinator - 2013 International Men's Day; The Honorable Chief Robert Red Hawk Ruth - Lenape Nation (USA) Regional Coordinator and National Strategic Coordinator - 2013 International Men's Day;  and Douglass Capogrossi, Hawaii (USA) Regional Coordinator - 2013 International Men's Day.

The 2012-2022: International Men's Day Ten Year Plan is the brainchild of the Botswana Coordinator for International Men's Day,Ms. Geneuvive Twala. Ms. Twala is developing a ten year plan for International Men's Day for Botswana -- a plan she shared with some members of the American International Men's Day team. After review, the American team reached a general consensus that Ms. Twala's 10 Year Plan for International Men's Day should be adopted and developed in the United States.

"As an educator, Mr. Evans brings a very valuable perspective to the USA 2012-2022 International Men's Day Committee. The USA and Botswana 2012-2022 International Men's Day Ten Year Plan is about setting achievable and realistic goals for effectively addressing the key challenges that prevent boys from being given a better start and life and preventing men and boys from living longer, healthier, and longer lives. These key challenges include -- education, physical and mental health, real life options, violence, Fatherhood and positive male role models. The areas of concern which Mr. Evans has identified are in alignment with the key challenges of education and health which the International Men's Day Coordination Committee have identified during the past two years in an effort to move the world's focus to addressing and resolving these challenges," remarked Diane A. Sears, the United States Coordinator for 2013 International Men's Day, member of the International Men's Day Coordination Committee, and Chair of the USA 2012-2022 International Men's Day Ten Year Plan.

DRAWING A STRAIGHT LINE TO RECIDIVISM, SUSTAINABILITY, AND RENEWED PROSPERITY IN PHILADELPHIA

Heralded by many as the “Next Great American City”, the fifth largest metropolitan area in the United States, the City of Philadelphia is on the move.  Real estate developers are transforming an area between Market and Chestnut Streets spanning from 11th to 12th Streets once considered the epicenter of Philadelphia into East Market, a towering and expansive structure which will be home to residential units, restaurants, retail outlets, and office space. Looking westward, a cluster of gleaming glass and steel skyscrapers which rise above the end of the Walnut Street Bridge and which appear to obfuscate the line of demarcation between the City of Philadelphia’s downtown business district, University City, and the neighborhoods surrounding Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania come into view .. These developments are helping to create excitement about Philadelphia. Despite the perceived “renewed prosperity” of Philadelphia’s downtown business district an…

SEEING INVISIBLE MEN AND BOYS: JEROME TEELUCKSINGH, Ph.D.

On 19 November 2015, a panel discussion was held at the Student Activity Center at The University of the West Indies, in Trinidad and Tobago (in the Caribbean). It was spearheaded by an undergraduate female student, Ms. Michelle Roopnarine, and featured Dr. John Gedeon of the University's Office of Planning and Development; Ramia Coleman, the Chairman of the all-male Hall of Residence on campus; and Jonathan St. Louis-Nahous, the Guild of Students' Representative for Part-time and Evening Students. The panel successfully generated some interest and lively discussion among a cross-section of students on campus and across faculties. During the past five years, similar small scale observances have been held on campus. Despite this recognition many students and members of the public are still unaware of the existence of International Men’s Day.
From 1999, International Men’s Day was tailored and revamped to continue building the global Men’s Movement and promote an ideology that…
