VIRGINIA'S CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY USHERED IN BY MRS. ODETTA WRIGHT, VIRGINIA (USA) REGIONAL COORDINATOR - 2012 INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (USA) -- Virginia's observance of 2012 International Men's Day was ushered in on Sunday, 18 November 2012 under the innovative leadership of MRS. ODETTA WRIGHT, the Virginia (USA) Regional Coordinator for 2012 International Men's Day and the Co-Founder of Father Figure Enterprises LLC (www.fatherfigure.org) at the New Deliverance Evangelistic Church (www.ndec.net) in Richmond, Virginia. 2012 International Men's Day in Virginia spawned the inauguration of the Global Visionary Award and its first recipient was BISHOP GERALD O. GLENN.  BISHOP GLENN  was instrumental in creating the "Men of Tomorrow" mentorship program for boys and young men which was launched on 2011 International Men's Day.  In 2012, the "Men of Tomorrow" mentorship program for boys and young men was launched in Botswana on 2012 International's Men Day as a result of a collaboration between MRS. WRIGHT, MS. GENEUVIVE TWALA, the Botswana Coordinator for 2012 International Men's Day, BISHOP GLENN, and ELDER THOMAS POWELL, who serves as the Coordinator of the "Men of Tomorrow" mentorship program at the New New Deliverance Evangelistic Church (www.ndec.net)

When reached for comment, MRS. WRIGHT offered the following:

"I have enjoyed seeing the International Men's Day 2012 events all around the world. Here in Virginia we presented Bishop Gerald O. Glenn with the first ever Global Visionary Award. This award will be presented each year to a deserving gentleman from Virginia who meets the criteria presented in the International Men's Day core principles. Bishop Glenn has been instrumental in creating the Men of Tomorrow program and will be consulting us as we implement the program in Botswana. Bishop Glenn and the congregation were excited about the award and our collaboration with Botswana.  I am truly excited about the future of International Men's Day and the Men of Tomorrow Mentoring Program.  Bishop Glenn and the congregation were excited about the award and our collaboration with Botswana. Here are pictures from the ceremony . . . ."

DRAWING A STRAIGHT LINE TO RECIDIVISM, SUSTAINABILITY, AND RENEWED PROSPERITY IN PHILADELPHIA

Heralded by many as the “Next Great American City”, the fifth largest metropolitan area in the United States, the City of Philadelphia is on the move.  Real estate developers are transforming an area between Market and Chestnut Streets spanning from 11th to 12th Streets once considered the epicenter of Philadelphia into East Market, a towering and expansive structure which will be home to residential units, restaurants, retail outlets, and office space. Looking westward, a cluster of gleaming glass and steel skyscrapers which rise above the end of the Walnut Street Bridge and which appear to obfuscate the line of demarcation between the City of Philadelphia’s downtown business district, University City, and the neighborhoods surrounding Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania come into view .. These developments are helping to create excitement about Philadelphia. Despite the perceived “renewed prosperity” of Philadelphia’s downtown business district an…

SEEING INVISIBLE MEN AND BOYS: JEROME TEELUCKSINGH, Ph.D.

On 19 November 2015, a panel discussion was held at the Student Activity Center at The University of the West Indies, in Trinidad and Tobago (in the Caribbean). It was spearheaded by an undergraduate female student, Ms. Michelle Roopnarine, and featured Dr. John Gedeon of the University's Office of Planning and Development; Ramia Coleman, the Chairman of the all-male Hall of Residence on campus; and Jonathan St. Louis-Nahous, the Guild of Students' Representative for Part-time and Evening Students. The panel successfully generated some interest and lively discussion among a cross-section of students on campus and across faculties. During the past five years, similar small scale observances have been held on campus. Despite this recognition many students and members of the public are still unaware of the existence of International Men’s Day.
From 1999, International Men’s Day was tailored and revamped to continue building the global Men’s Movement and promote an ideology that…
