Artistry Against Misandry (http://www.artistryagainstmisandry.com) has been selected to assume a leadership role in 2012 International Men's Day (www.international-mens-day.com). Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Artistry Against Misandry has been selected as the Tennessee (USA) Regional Coordinator for 2012 International Men's Day. The organization is a new and growing international network of artists whose work both exposes and combats misandry in western culture. It serves as an online resource for the public to visit and learn about the Men's Rights Movement through music, graphic artwork, and creative writing. Site Administrator for Artistry Against Misandry, Jade Michael, is a professional musician residing in Nashville, Tennessee where he will hold the City's first men's rights themed International Men's Day event on Saturday, November 17 2012 at The Listening Room Cafe in downtown Nashville. The event will be open to all ages of the general public and will feature live local music and special guest speaker, "John The Other" from A Voice For Men Radio and website.
Founded in 1999, by Jerome Teelucksingh, Ph.D., Chairman of the International Men's Day Coordination Committee and a faculty member in the History Department at the University of West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, International Men's Day is observed worldwide on 19th November of each year. The objectves of International Men's Day include a focus on men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion for men to highlight discrimination against them and to celebrate
their achievements and contributions, in particular, their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. The November International Men's Day date is a significant date as it interfaces with the popular 'Movember' charity event and also with Universal Children's Day on 20 November with which International Men's Day forms a 48 hour celebration of men and children respectively, and of the special relationships they share.
During the past ten years, methods of commemorating International Men's Day have included public seminars, classroom activities at schools, radio and television programs, Church observances, and peaceful displays and marches. The manner of observing this annual day is optional; any organizations are welcome to host their own events and any appropriate forums can be used. Early pioneers of International Men's Day reminded us that the day is not intended to
compete against International Woman's Day, but is for the purpose of highlighting men's experiences. Each year secondary themes are suggested, such as peace in 2002, men’s
health in 2003, healing and forgiveness in 2007, or positive male role models in 2009, although it is not compulsory to adopt these themes and participants are welcome to come up with their own to suit local needs and concerns. In consultation with organizers from other
nations,
International Men's Day observes the following six (6) core objectives which are applied equally to men and boys irrespective of their age, ability, social background, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious belief and relationship status:
The six (6) Core Objectives of International Men's Day are provided below:
To promote positive male role models; not just movie stars and sports men but everyday, working class men who are living decent, honest lives.
To celebrate men’s positive contributions to society, community, family, marriage, child care, and to the environment.
To focus on men’s health and wellbeing; social, emotional, physical and spiritual.
To highlight discrimination against males; in areas of social services, social attitudes and expectations, and law.
To improve gender relations and promote gender equality.
To create a safer, better world; where people can be safe and grow to reach their full potential.
International Men's Day is celebrated in over 60 countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Australia, India, Italy, United States, New Zealand, Brazil, Moldova, Haiti, St. Ketts and Nevis, Portugal, Singapore, Malta, South Africa, Ghana, Botswana, Angola, Zimbabwe, Croatia, Uganda, Chile, Hungary, Ireland, Peru, Canada, China, Vietnam, Pakistan, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Guyana, Netherlands, Belgium, Georgia, Argentina, Mexico, Germany, Austria, Finland, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom.
