PHILADELPHIA, PA (USA) – 21 November 2015 – Nationally acclaimed Restorative Justice Thought Leaders and Practitioners will converge on the Unitarian Society of Germantown at 6511 Lincoln Drive in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday, 22 November 2015 from 12:30 P.M. through 5:00 P.M. to engage in a solutions-based dialogue on Mass Incarceration and Criminal Justice Reform entitled “Teach-In 2: From Punitive To Restorative Justice – The Job’s The Thing”. Teach-In 2 is sponsored by The Coalition Against Mass Incarceration (“CAMI”) and the Unitarian Society of Germantown’s Ending Racism Committee ( “Teach-In 2” will seek solutions to impediments which, among other things, makes it extremely difficult, and in some cases, prevents formerly incarcerated individuals from obtaining employment – one of the pathways to reintegration and redemption. Humanizing the prison experience, judicial equity, opening opportunities outside of prison, changing unjust laws and economic security will also be explored through six workshops which will be facilitated by outstanding representatives from the fields of labor, government and the law. Prominent among the speakers will be:

THE HONORABLE JAMES M. DELEON, veteran jurist in the Criminal Court Division of the Philadelphia Municipal Court and architect of Operation Fresh Start ™ a multi-tiered national blueprint for criminal justice reform

MR. MARC KRAMER, graduate of Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Founder of “Change The Hustle”, an organization with a mission to transform the lives of individual who are in negative life situations or considering illegal ways to make money by teaching entrepreneurship which are legal opportunities with higher income potential and lower personal risks.

MR. MARK BOYD, Chief Executive Officer of Goodwill Industries in New Jersey and Philadelphia who has extended employment to numerous Returning Citizens for at least ten years.

DR. RENAYA FURTICK-WHEELAN , Co-Founder of “I’m FREE,” a trauma-informed gender-responsive non-profit organization which empowers youth, women, and young adults over 20 years of age and helps their transition from life changing events

J. JONDHI HARRELL, Founder and Executive Director of The Center for Returning Citizens will bring practical experience in the neighborhoods of Philadelphia most affected by Mass Incarceration, and advocacy for meaningful change to the mix. Members of local grassroots re-entry organizations/agencies and members from Decarcerate PA will attend and participate.

ORGANIZED LABOR LEADERS and SPEAKERS from other cities including MR. FIVE OMAR MUALIMM-AK, a prison reform activist, artist; and Founder and Program Director of the Incarcerated Nation Campaign and MR. RAY RIOS, Executive Board Member of Alternatives To Violence Project (New York) .

The dialogue on Restorative Justice will be conducted through the following workshops:

1. Punitive and Current Practices;
2. Trends for Restorative Justice;
3. Union Apprenticeships and Sweat Equity;
4. Returning Citizens as Entrepreneurs;
5. Changing Laws and Sentencing Practices; and
6. Alternatives to Incarceration.

An exhibit of art created by prisoners -- “Art For Justice”, will be curated by MS. A.M. KIRK. at “Teach-In 2”. Babysitting is available for which prior registration is required. A bag lunch will be served and parking can be found in the rear of the Unitarian Society of Germantown.
