MOVEMENT TO DECLARE 19TH NOVEMBER "INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY" IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA


A movement has begun in the United States of America to declare 19th November "International Men's Day". In the United States, 2011 International Men's Day (www.international-mens-day.com) will be celebrated by The Lenape Nation under the leadership of The Honorable Chief Robert Red Hawk and in a number of states which include, but are not limited to, Alabama, Arizona, California, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, and New Jersey. International Men's Day shares a 48-hour partnership with Universal Children's Day which is also observed worldwide on 20 November of each year and is endorsed by the United Nations.

International Men's Day which was founded in 1999 by Jerome Teelucksingh, Ph.D., a faculty member in the History Department at the University of West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago; Chairman of the International Men's Day Coordination Committee, a Global Think Tank; author; humanitarian; and Thought Leader is observed worldwide each year on 19th November. 2011 International Men's Day wiill be observed under the theme "Giving Boys The Best Possible Start In Life" in over 50 nations around the world which include Bosnia, the United Kingdom, Ghana, Italy, Argentina, South Africa, Botswana, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Angola, Belgium, Germany, Uganda, Italy, Ireland, on Saturday, 19 November 2011.


A global grassroots movement, International Men's Day honors and celebrates the sacrifices that men -- every day men -- make to our families, our communities, and our world. The mission of International Men's Day is embodied in its six (6) Core Objectives which were established in 1999 by its founder, Jerome Teelucksingh, Ph.D.

The six (6) Core Objectives of International Men's Day are:

• To promote positive male role models; not just movie stars and sports men but everyday, working class men who are living decent, honest lives.

• To celebrate men’s positive contributions to society, community, family, marriage, childcare, and to the environment.

• To focus on men’s health and wellbeing; social, emotional, physical and spiritual.

• To highlight discrimination against men; in areas of social services, social attitudes and expectations, and law.

• To improve gender relations and promote gender equality.

• To create a safer, better world; where people can be safe and grow to reach their full potential.
