"BOY'S LITERACY PETITION" CREATED BY MICHIGAN (USA) REGIONAL COORDINATOR FOR 2011 INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY

Brian Hall, the Michigan (USA) Regional Coordinator for 2011 International Men's Day recently created a "Boy's Literacy Petition" on the new "We the People" website created by administration of The Honorable Barack H. Obama, President of the United States of America. To view and sign the petition, please visit the "We The People" website at the following link: http://wh.gov/48Z. Mr. Hall advises that new website, "We The People" allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking President Obama and members of his administration to take action on a range of issues.

When reached for comment about the "Boy's Literacy Petition", Mr. Hall had this to say: " Please consider signing the petition and forwarding it to others as you see fit. Reaching 250 signatures is a critical milestone since up until this point, the petition relies on word of mouth to circulate. Once a petition reaches 250 signatures, it becomes searchable on the whitehouse.gov website greatly improving its exposure. If the petition receives 5000 signatures in a month, it will be reviewed by a white house policy adviser and an official response posted on the whitehouse.gov website."

The text of Mr. Hall's petition appears below:

BOY'S LITERACY PETITION

Acknowledge and commit to closing the reading and writing gap between boys and girls in K-12 education.

According to the US Department of Education, girls outperform boys in k-12 literacy testing (reading and writing) in all 50 states. The literacy gender gap is significantly larger than the math gender gap favoring boys, yet the Administration and the Department of Education is silent on the issue. The Department of Education has several initiatives to encourage and improve girls performance in math and science including a section under the Doing What Works program. A search of their website yields no similar effort to encourage boy's interest in reading and writing. By supporting this petition we request the Obama administration to acknowledge and take an
active role in closing the reading and writing achievement gap between boys and girls.

IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R) supports Mr. Hall's "Boy's Literacy Petition".
We hope you will take a moment to view the petition and sign it.
