The Makers of Crisco® No-Stick Cooking Sprays Announce New “Grilling Hall of Fame”Contest Will Award Five Grillmasters With A $5,000 Backyard Makeover and Induction Into Grilling Hall of Fame

ORRVILLE, OH (December 10, 2008) — The summer may be over, but it is still grilling season across the country. According to a recent study from The NPD Group, a leading market research company, barbecue grilling is no longer just a summertime activity. An increasing number of Americans are firing up their grills year round and outdoor grill usage is at an all-time high, nearly double what it was 20 years ago.

Now that consumers have had an opportunity to perfect their grilling recipes over the summer months, Crisco®, makers of the Simple Touch® No-Stick Cooking Spray with a Click & Go Nozzle, is inviting “at-home grillmasters” to show off their skill and enter the Crisco No-Stick Cooking Sprays Grilling Hall of Fame Contest. Entrants will share their favorite recipe for a chance to be the first grillmasters inducted into the new Grilling Hall of Fame and win a $5,000 backyard makeover.

To enter the contest, consumers are asked to share an original grilling recipe that incorporates a Crisco No-Stick Cooking Spray and a brief essay explaining why they created the recipe and why they should be inducted into the Crisco Grilling Hall of Fame along with a photo of the prepared recipe. Entries can be submitted now through December 15, 2008 at www.GrillingHallofFame.com. The top 15 recipes will be posted online in February 2009. Site visitors will have the opportunity to vote and help determine the five grand prize winners. Winners will be announced in spring 2009.

“Crisco has helped many home cooks be successful in the kitchen and we are now doing the same thing for the outdoor grill,” said Maribeth Badertscher, Director, Corporate Communications. “We’d like to celebrate those ‘at-home grillmasters’ and reward their expertise.”

The Grilling Hall of Fame Web site also features downloadable grilling recipes from Crisco and key barbecue tips from renowned grillmasters Fred Thompson, author of Barbecue Nation, and Ed Wilson, owner of Wilson’s Barbeque in Fairfield, Conn. For example:

Thompson recommends grilling in combination – have a direct heat area of your grill for searing and a slower heat area (indirect) to finish the cooking. This is especially helpful with thick steaks and chops and bone-in chicken pieces. He also reminds people to give the spatula and tongs a quick coating with Crisco No-Stick Cooking Spray so that food does not stick.

Wilson believes a clean grill ensures successful grilling and suggests cleaning the grill by raising the grill temperature very high before re-using it. Any residual material on grill grates can be cleaned with a quality wire brush or aluminum foil.

“A good recipe isn’t the only item that makes a barbecue dish successful,” said Thompson. “You must use great ingredients and develop a great technique. I’ve found the Crisco sprays to be the best grilling sprays. They’re easy to use and prevent food from sticking to the grill.”

Crisco has revolutionized no-stick cooking and grilling with the Simple Touch® No-Stick Cooking Spray with Click & Go Nozzle. The sprays – available in Original, Butter Flavor and Olive Oil varieties – are the only no-stick cooking sprays to feature this innovative nozzle, designed to eliminate fumbling with caps or lids. With a nozzle that simply clicks to open and close, and a broader nozzle surface that makes handling easier and eliminates breakage, Crisco sprays are an essential grilling accessory.

“Barbecue is both my passion and my career,” said Wilson. “I applaud every home chef who has taken the time to master the grill. The excitement of cooking on an open flame is one that never fades. Every great grillmaster has a secret and one of my favorites is spraying a cool rack with a Crisco No-Stick Cooking spray before heating my grill. I know my best meats and marinades will leave the grill completely intact and that is invaluable.”
