JUNE 2008 IS "FATHERS ARE IMPORTANT MONTH!"

SHERMAN, TX (USA) – 2 JUNE 2008 -- Day after day, quietly and unceremoniously, in cities, villages, hamlets, suburbs, municipalities, and rural districts throughout our global village, fathers go about the business of positively shaping the minds and souls of our children and creating and implementing plans that will move their families forward. Children are their heart and soul. Children are the reason that they rise up early in the morning and head off to back-breaking and spirit-numbing jobs. They do what they have to do to provide for their family.

Fathers are the glue that holds our families, our communities and our world together. Fathers are important. And June 2008 has been declared “Fathers Are Important Month” by one of the key players in the Fatherhood Movement, Mr. Don Mathis, the publisher of an international Fatherhood publication, The Fourteen Percenter, which is the voice for Noncustodial Fathers throughout our global village.

"Whether you are a Noncustodial Dad, Married Dad, Custodial Dad, Stay-At-Home Dad, Long Distance Dad or a Single Dad, you are important," Mr. Mathis stated. "‘Fathers Are Important Month’ – June 2008 – is about honoring Fathers worldwide. It’s also about examining the serious issues that Fathers in the Millennium confront on a day-to-day basis. It’s about educating everyone about the need for equal parenting initiatives, the establishment of an Office for Men’s Health in the United States Department of Health and Human Services, and it’s about doing the work that needs to be done to make sure that all Fathers are given the tools that they need to create key pieces of the puzzle to empowering and strengthening their families and the communities in which they live and work,” Mr. Mathis stated.

Don Mathis is known internationally for his work on issues affecting Noncustodial Fathers. D.A. Sears, Managing Editor of IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD®, said that when Don shared his vision for ‘June 2008: Fathers Are Important Month,’ she understood its importance.

"It is my hope that ‘June 2008: Fathers Are Important Month’ will motivate everyone to look at the issues facing Men," Ms Sears said. "During June 2008: Fathers Are Important Month’ let’s look at, for example, men’s health issues."

Heart disease, prostate cancer, diabetes, colon cancer, hypertension and Alzheimer’s disease are just a few of the unique health issues confronting men. The World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, recently released statistics which show that one out of every ten men throughout our global village is at risk for Alzheimer’s Disease. In the United States, it is estimated that there will be 186,320 new cases of prostate cases. And it is estimated that approximately 28,660 prostate cancer patients will die in the United States.

"Men – especially Fathers – are the glue that holds our families, our communities and our world together. We need healthy Fathers!,” Ms. Sears said.

D.A. Sears is the Managing Editor of IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD®, a quarterly international male parenting journal which is published and distributed by BSI International, Inc.
