NEW PROSTATE CANCER VACCINE TESTING ANNOUNCED BY MATER MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE

TESTING OF NEW PROSTATE CANCER VACCINE ANNOUNCED BY BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA’S MATER MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA - The Mater Medical Research Institute located in Brisbane, Australia recently announced that at least five patients have participated in Phase One of a clinical trial for a new prostate cancer vaccine which it has developed. Professor Derek Hart, who is the Director of the Mater Medical Research Institute was the leader of the team of Australian scientists which developed the new prostate cancer vaccine. During the coming months, at least seven (7) additional patients are scheduled to participate in a clinical trial of the vaccine. Professor Hart anticipates that Phase Two of the clinical trials for the vaccine will begin around 2009 or 2010 which will be open to men with less advanced prostate cancers who have either have utilized surgery or radiotherapy as a means of combatting prostate cancer. So, how does the vaccine work? Dendritic blood cells are “retrained” by the vaccine to “seek out and attack the cancer” in the same manner that a cold or flu is attacked. Patients receiving the vaccine are required to enter a hospital and have blood taken for the vaccine which is administered the next day. Want to know more?
