AS WE CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY . . .

As we celebrate International Men's Day, let's take a moment to think about how the selfless contributions and sacrifices that Men we know . . . and Men whom we do not and will not have the honor of knowing for a variety of reasons . . . have positively impacted our personal lives, our communities, and our global village. At great risk, Men in our midst have worked and continue to work quietly and unceremoniously to create a world that gives all of us the freedom to dream dreams and to pursue them.  Men are co-architects of our bridge to the future and the glue that holds our families, our communities, and our global village together.  Let's utilize this day -- International Men's Day -- and every day going forward as a platform to express -- in words and in deeds -- to the 3.6 million souls who are males that we see them, that we love them, and that they matter very much to us.

IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R) SERVES UP A STRAIGHT NO CHASER DIALOGUE ON MEN'S ISSUES ON 11 NOVEMBER 2017 COURTESY OF THE TRIBE FAMILY CHANNEL(TM) NETWORK

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (USA) Are Men being negatively stereotyped in films, television dramas, commercials, and situation comedies, and in music videos? Is society, mainstream media, and the entertainment industry sending mixed signals to Men and Boys about masculinity, their roles and responsibilities as Men and Fathers in society, and the rules of engagement for courtship and marriage? What is International Men’s Day, why is it important, and what role is it playing in helping to resolve some of the key challenges which prevent Men and Boys from reaching their full potential? And what do Men really need and want?

IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD® (www.blogtalkradio.com/gumboforthesoul)) serves up a straight-no chaser dialogue on Men’s Issues with assistance from three key players in the Global Men’s Movement – Jerome Teelucksingh, Ph.D., a Gender Issues Thought Leader and Founder of International Men’s Day from Trinidad and Tobago; Mr. Shane Ryan, the Chief Executive Officer for Working With Men and Fatherhood and Men’s Issues Thought Leader from London in the United Kingdom; and from the United States -- Mr. Boysen Hodgson, the Communications Director for the Mankind Project USA, on Saturday, 11 November 2017 from 3:00 P.M. (E.D.T.) through 4:30 P.M. (E.D.T.).

Audience participation is encouraged and listeners can pose questions and comments to the show’s guests by dialing 347-539-5825.

The IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD® blog talk radio show is produced and aired by The TRIBE Family Channel™ Network on the second Saturday of each month from 14 October 2016 through 10 March 2018. It is hosted by Diane A. Sears, who is the Managing Editor of IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD®, a quarterly international Fatherhood and Men’s Issues Journal (http://globalfatherhooddialogue.blogspot.com) and the United States Coordinator for International Men’s Day (www.internationalmensday.com).

PHILADELPHIA MAYOR ISSUES 2017 INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY PROCLAMATION

The United States International Men's Day Team is pleased to announce that the City of Philadelphia's Mayor, The Honorable James F. Kenney, has issued a Proclamation for 2017 International Men's Day which designates Sunday, 19 November 2017 as "International Men's Day" throughout the City of Philadelphia (see below).  Inaugurated on 19 November 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago by Jerome Teelucksingh, Ph.D., a Gender Issues Thought Leader, humanitarian, faculty member in the History Department at the University of West Indies, author, and poet, International Men's Day is observed in 82 nations --  including the United States.   International Men's Day shares a 48 hour partnership with Universal Children's Day which is observed worldwide on 20 November of each year and is endorsed by the United Nations.

Approximately  3.6 billion souls of the 7.5 billion souls who occupy this space and place we know as Planet Earth are males – Men and Boys  -- Homeless Men and Boys, Incarcerated Men, Married Men, Divorced Men, Single Men, Men who are Fathers, physically and mentally disabled Men and Boys, Men and Boys who live in poverty, Men and Boys who are Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists and agnostics, Men and Boys who are poor or rich, educated or uneducated, Men and Boys of diverse ethnicities and Men and Boys who speak different languages – French, Urdu, Spanish, English, Portugese, Swahili, Xhosa, Arabic, Gaelic, German, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Italian, Hindi, Bengali, and Punjabi/Lahnda. The experiences of Men and Boys are as diverse as their age, levels of education, religion, ethnicity, language, and culture. Diversity should evoke celebration and understanding.  Global and Regional Coordinators for 2017 International Men’s Day are encouraging individuals, organizations, and institutions  throughout our global village to build bridges of understanding and not walls that divide and to engage in solutions-based dialogues that create pathways for designing, implementing, and supporting initiatives which recognize the diversity of Men and Boys – particularly their experiences of "marginalization" which are shaped, in part, as an example, by socio-economic status, ethnic and religious bias, language, and culture.

The 2017 International Men's Day theme -- “Celebrating Men And Boys In All Their Diversity” is a “Call To Action” --- for individuals, institutions, and organizations to innovate the manner in which they design and deliver resources and support services that speak to the unique needs and issues of Men and Boys which address their diversity and to refrain from utilizing an “one-size-fits-all” approach to creating tools for Men and Boys that help them empower themselves and strengthen the communities in which they live.

LET'S TAKE A DEEP BREATH . . . . . .

In turbulent and uncertain times and even in a world that seems to be operating from an "upside down" position, there is always...
